Students first woodburn favorite designs or other artwork of their choice on the gourd's cleaned surface. Then they use precious metal leafing to fill and decorate the the burned images. This is a great opportunity to practice woodburning skills and metal leafing in a group.  Ideas sprout like wild fire in the company of other artists experimenting with these same techniques and observing each other's work.  Students also enjoy being able to try out a wide variety of burning tips or nibs for creating special wood burning effects and discovering which nibs and which brands they like the best and may want to purchase for themselves.
